The bald side of the body receives healthy and functioning hair follicles from healthy areas of the body. These transplanted hair follicles are usually taken from the back of the scalp.

Hair Transplant Growth Chart Guide

This guide will help you to know when to expect hair growth.

Week 1 to 2:

Waking up in the morning and thinking your hair is back after the next day of surgery is not possible. It is common to be eager to see results but don’t rush as the procedure will take time.

Follow your surgeon’s post-operative instructions and take care of your hair as this is the time of recovery from surgery. You won’t see any growth but don’t forget to take care of your scalp. Wash and brush your scalp, take a good nap, do meditation, and follow medications.

Week 2 to 3:

These weeks are known as the “shock loss” stage, because you may notice some hair loss. This is a normal part of a hair transplant. Only the hair strands will shed while the roots of transplanted hair follicles will remain healthy.

Months 1 to 3:

Many people start feeling defeated in this stage as they are still expected to be in the shock loss stage. This is very common so don’t lose hope. Irregular patches on the scalp and hair loss make them frustrated. This is a normal part of the healing process.

Months 3 to 6:

New hair growth will be visible to you. Density and strength will improve over time.

Months 6 to 8:

After 6 months of the procedure, many people noticed density, texture and thickness.

Months 8 to 12:

This period is also known as the “ maturation period”. Follicles will heal and settle into the natural hair growth cycle. You will be expected to notice significant growth, with thicker and natural-looking locks.

After a year:

Now, you can expect the desired results. Your healing process is done. You have grown natural-looking, thick, beautiful hair. Now, step out with confidence.

Can I Grow My Hair Faster Than a Normal Process After Hair Transplant Surgery?

Your patience is the key to successful hair transplant surgery. The results will take their expected time to show. However, you can adopt some practices for better healing, growth and successful results:

  • Eat a healthy diet rich in vitamins C, E and B12, zinc, iron and antioxidants.

  • Avoid smoking.

  • Your surgeon will advise you to take biotin, minoxidil or use PRP injections.

  • Use products suggested by your surgeon to wash your scalp and hair.

Stages of Hair Growth:

Understand why hair growth takes time with stages of hair growth. Four key phases cover the cycle of hair growth and loss:

  1. Anagen: Anagen is the growth phase and the longest of the four phases. During anagen, hairs are pushed out by the hair follicles and grow until they reach the end of their lifespan. Compared to facial or public hairs scalp hairs have a longer anagen phase.

  2. Catagen: Following the anagen phase catagen is the transitional phase. Growth slows and hair follicles shrink over 10 days. For hair's final days of growth, the hair separates from the hair follicle but stays in place on the scalp.

  3. Telogen: After the catagen transitional phase telogen is the resting phase. Approximately three months after a hair has stopped growing, it will remain in place. In the hair follicles, new hairs are being formed during this time.

  4. Exogen: Hair shedding phase or say exogen phase after telogen. It lasts from two to five months. During exogen, hair that is separated from the follicle and isn’t growing will fall out. Hair shedding will likely happen while sleeping, washing or brushing your hair. Old hair will fall out during the exogen phase as new hairs will grow in the hair follicles.
